Uyuni Salt flats Tayka 3 days 2 nights tour
Tour 4×4 on Salar de Uyuni (Salt Flat) for 3 days and 2 nights. This amazing tour takes us to one of the highlights of Bolivia and entire South America: Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt-desert in the world. Surrounded by impressive volcanos, 40.000 Years ago, lake Minchin was located here. When it dried, it left behind a layer of salt that can be up to 20 meters deep. The amazing salar and impressive surrounding landscapes make this site unforgettable. The reflecting and disorienting effects allow for interesting photographing. During this tour we will sleep in a Salt-Hotel, visit indigenous villages and wonderful colored lakes, geysers, flamingo’s and much more.
First day:
We will leave Uyuni in the morning around 10.30 / 11:00 am and first visit the train cemetery where you can see the old rusting trains from decades ago. After this we process to Colchani and witness how the salt is processed before we arrive to the Salt Flats themselves and see the “Ojos de Sal” where water bubbles up through the salt plains. We will see where the salt has been laced in mounds ready to be transported, the original salt hotel (no longer used for guests) and visit Inca Huasi (Fish Island) to see the giant cacti and have great views of the salt flats all around. There will be plenty of time for taking amazing photos of the saltflats before we head toward our amazing first hotel, Palacio de Sal or Luna Salada.
Palacio de Sal Hotel, literally “The Salt Palace”, is the first salt hotel in the world, it has been welcoming guests since 1998. It is with no doubt one of the most originals hotels in the world.
Palacio de Sal is a luxury hotel located at the edge of Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, in Colchani (25 km from the town of Uyuni). The hotel is ideally situated and a perfect starting point for exploring Salar de Uyuni with us.
The hotel blends effortlessly into its dramatic and spectacular surroundings by incorporating salt into every element of the design. The infraestructure and furniture are made of solid salt bricks from the Uyuni salt lake. The walls, ceilings, furniture and more are made of salt, while in the public areas, salt sculptures by Bolivian artists make eye-catching focal points. Wooden walkways and deep red furnishings keep the atmosphere warm and prevent the salt surroundings from feeling too bare. The cozy accomodations recall a mix of local Andean traditions with comtemporary, modern but classic and elegant architecture.
This hotel is pretty unique, one of the most unusuals hotels in the world. Take a look for yourself and book your trip to salar de Uyuni with us including a stay at Palacio de Sal hotel.
Second day:
We awake early and have breakfast before leaving to travel further south. You will first have the chance to visit the Sora Canyon and see llamas in their natural environment before continuing through the Chuguana desert area where the scenery will include a number of extinct volcanoes plus the semiactive Ollague. As the journey continues we will pass by high altitude lagoons that are home to 3 species of flamingo before arriving into the desert of Siloli and the “tree of rock”. We then move onto the “Laguna Colorada”, an amazing red colored lake full of flamingos. Here is where we enter the Eduardo Avaroa National Park. In late afternoon we then go to visit the “Sol de Mañana” geysers and see the bubbling mud pools and steam jets. At the end of the afternoon we will arrive at our second hotel, Tayka desert hotel. Hotel Tayka del Desierto (Spanish for Tayka Desert hotel) is located in the heart of the Siloli desert. Nestled into a small hillside, the visitor feels literally in the middle of nowhere.
The walls have been made out of volcanic rocks.
Third day:
Today we have an early start at 07:30 am after breakfast, to visit “Sol de Mañana” geysers and see the bubbling mud pools and steam jets. We will then continue to some hot springs where you will have a chance to relax in the warm water pools and we will also breakfast here (hot springs are sometimes visited the evening of the second day). After our relaxing break we continues via the “Dali desert” to see “Laguna Verde” where, if conditions are correct, we see the green mineral waters of this lake at the foot of Volcan Licancabur (from here we do the transfers to San Pedro de Atacama – there is an additional fee for this transfer and it is available on 3 day tour only, you arrive in San Pedro approximately midday). We then start our return journey back to Uyuni where we arrive approximately 16.30 / 17.00, perfectly on time if having a late flight or an overnight bus back to La Paz.
If you want to go Chile the third day after the green lake the company can also organize your transfer by bus that will take you to san pedro de Atacama.
