Hiking Cerro Tunari, 5050 Meters

Of all the Andean countries, Bolivia remains the least touristy and the most adventurous. It offers all the attractions of its more popular neighbors, yet remains a well-kept secret from the masses. This makes it a unique opportunity for adventurous climbers and hikers.
OVERVIEW
You will be picked up by our guide at around 7:00am, and we head out on the road toward Morochata. The landscape changes quickly as we drive into the Tunari mountain range. Our trek begins at a spectacular starting point at around 4,300 meters above sea level. Along the way, we pass beautiful waterfalls, Andean lakes, and farmland, encountering indigenous communities typical of the Andean landscape. After a trek of average difficulty, we reach the summit of Pico Tunari, from where we are rewarded with incredible views. With a bit of luck and clear skies, you can spot the Illimani mountain near La Paz, standing at 6,462 meters. And of course, the city of Cochabamba spreads out below.

Description of this hike
Early in the morning a guide from El Mundo Verde Travel will pick you up from your hotel in Cochabamba and leave by private transport towards Tiquipaya and El Paso where we will visit the oldest church of Cochabamba. Further we leave the main road and start to rise a mountain road up into the mountains of the Cordillera Tunari. On our way up, we will see forest of kewiΓ±a trees and with some luck we will spot the majestic condor which habitats this region. The road will also pass through typical Andean villages. The higher we get, the grass covered mountains will change into rock formations whose peaks are sometimes covered with snow. We will leave the main road and go up by car to the top of the valley where we find some crystal clear mountain lakes and herder pasturing their llamas and alpaca. At the lake βMachoβ we will drink our typical Bolivian breakfast, afterwards we will start our three hours ascent to the top of central Boliviaβs highest peak. Before we reach the top we will have to face some rock formations, obstacles which are easy to overcome, which makes our ascent to the summit even more interesting. At the end without much difficulty we will make it to stand above 5,000m where we will enjoy an amazing view of 360 degrees, we can see the Cochabamba valley is lying down to our feet and if we are lucky we will be able to see as far as the snow covered mountains of the Cordillera Real and the Cordillera Quimza Cruz. After consuming our box lunch at the top of the peak and some time to rest and to enjoy the altitude we will descend to the last mountain lake where our private transport is waiting for us to take us back to Cochabamba.
Our guides have also traveled and climbed extensively in South America and intimately know the Bolivian Andes.
